The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a distinctive approach to religious formation for children aged 3–12, inspired by Dr. Maria Montessori’s educational principles. Developed by Hebrew and Scripture scholar Sofia Cavalletti and Montessori educator Gianna Gobbi in 1954 Rome, the program is deeply rooted in Scripture and Liturgy and is now embraced worldwide.
Programs at St. Vincent Martyr
St. Vincent Martyr Church offers CGS programs for the following age groups:
Level 1: PK3, PK4, and Kindergarten
Integrated into specific school days for PK4 and Kindergarten as part of the SVMS program
Level 2: Grades 1–5
Sessions take place in a dedicated space called an atrium, which serves as a sacred retreat-like environment rather than a traditional classroom. Modeled after the ancient church atrium, it is a place where children transition from the outside world to focus on their faith journey. Within this space, catechists guide children through Scripture and Liturgy presentations designed to inspire their responses, nurturing a personal bond with God.
